January 5, 2009 nnyq.com editWeb services is standards-based technology that allows different applications from a variety sources to communicate with requiring custom code. Based on XML, Web services are not tied to one operating system or programming language.
Actional SOAPstation, according to the company, is designed to address the need for managed Web service distribution by providing a unified point of control for Web service provisioning, version management, business activity monitoring and end-to-end security across the entire Web services network.
The platform is designed to enable companies to manage changes to Web services networks without disruption, allowing them to enforce, monitor and control quality of services (QoS) and service level agreements (SLAs).
According to Actional, SOAPstation acts as a Web services proxy, managing the interactions between the applications that provide Web services and the systems that build on them. The platform offers the following features, according to the company.
- Secure service provisioning
- Version and variant management
- Business activity monitoring
- End-to-end security
- Enterprise-caliber deployment
- Intuitive user interface
Actional SOAPstation runs on Windows, Solaris and Linux and is currently in beta testing. It will be available next quarter.
