RCN Looks Ahead With Acquisitions Complete

January 7, 2009 nnyq.com edit RCN Corp. Thursday completed the acquisition of four major Internet companies and added a new executive to focus on revenue-generating opportunities.

RCN completed the internal integration of Erols Internet Inc., Interport Communications, JavaNet and UltraNet Communications. RCN.com now provides Internet access to nearly 500,000 East Coast Internet subscribers through the four acquisitions.

"RCN has an opportunity through its growing Internet subscriber base to generate significant revenues while offering unique value-added services capable of enhancing the online experience for our valuable customers," said David C. McCourt, RCN chairman and chief executive officer.

The company also named Rajan Chopra as president of new product development. Chopra comes to RCN from Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.

"RCN is a company that understands the power of the Internet, in all of its current forms and potential applications." Chopra said. "RCN is also unique among companies doing business on or around the Internet, because it is building a true local fiber optic network capable of delivering this powerful new medium to residential customers at extremely high speeds."

RCN Corp. is the nation's seventh largest ISP in the U.S. RCN currently provides local and long distance phone, cable television and Internet services in several metropolitan East Coast markets.
