Shark RSR Motorcycle Helmet
October 25, 2008 nnyq.com editOlivier Jacque, Alex Barros, Regis Laconi, Troy Corser, Stephan Chambon, Amaud Vincent, and David Vuillemin all wear a Shark helmet.
Not only are pro racers wearing these helmets they are also a best seller in Europe and recently they've been introduced into the US market where they are catching up at an astounding rate.
Shark is so serious about playing in the US market that they even had their helmets Snell certified giving US riders an added sense of security.
The RSR shell is made from a multi-axial fiber which is a combination of composite carbon fiber, Aramid fibers, epoxy resin, an Dyneema. Dyneema is the strongest fiber in the world. So what you have is a helmet that is exceptionally light in weight but stronger and tougher than almost any other helmet on the market.
Of course you can't get this high tech technology for pittance. It's going to cost a little bit more than your average helmet but technology doesn't come cheap. These helmets run around $700 but worth every penny if you are serious about having the best helmet.
This helmet has the highest quality construction combined with the ultimate in comfort and great air flow. This is a light weight helmet that comes in a wide selection of colors and graphical designs. And of course it has DOT and Snell approvals.
Now speaking of graphics and paint The RSR is made from such light fibers that it weighs in at only 1601 grams or 3 pounds 8 ounces, for an extra large making it the lightest helmet on the market. The paint is applied nice and thick and the clear coat gives this helmet a great shine. The graphics are crisp and original and overall the paint and graphics of this helmet is comparable to other high end helmets on the market.
The visor is one of the thickest available at 3 mm and it has superb optical qualities including anti fog coating. It can be adjusted up and down and it uses a hex screw system with a safety lever rather than the click stop system found on many other helmets.
The venting includes a chin inlet, top inlet, and rear exhaust vents. The chin inlet is easy to use just slide and push up or down to open and close. The air will flow from the vents up to the back of the visor then onto the riders face. It has excellent air flow!
The top vent is big, round, and so distinctive you can't help but notice it. The slider makes it easy to open and close it and the overall air flow is enhanced on this helmet because of the deep grooves in the liner.
No matter what the advertising says the only way to know if a helmet really is as comfortable as the claims is to try it. But the Shark liner is rally different. The fabric feels like Chamois cloth against the skin and the memory foam forms to your face and is extremely comfortable. In fact it's been voted the best in comfort.
Their sizing seems to be a bit small so don't be surprised if you need to order one size larger than normal. And if you have an earth shaped head you are going to love this helmet.
The Shark RSR motorcycle helmet is one of the best on the market. Remember you get what you pay for and this helmet is worth every dime!
