Sony is relatively new to the gaming industry. They have just recently established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the gaming industry. From its early release of the PlayStation 1 to the PlayStation 2, and the Sony PSP, Sony has yet to disappoint. They are known to have the most extensive gaming library and game selections. Sony have yet to establish set Sony characters like Nintendo has, but has always managed to sell large quantity of games to achieve the greatest hit status. Games such as Gran Turismo, Devil May Cry, and Metal Gear solid are games that have been able to reach greatest hit status without using themed characters such as Mario or Zelda. Sony is relatively new to gaming; however, judging from their offerings they are here and plan to stay.

The area, at which the Sony PlayStation 2 excels in, is its games. They have the largest selection of games and their catalog only seems to be growing. From their famed first person shooters, racing, role playing games, action and strategy, Sony has managed to offer the largest variety and has captured the majority of the customers. This may have been very well caused by its marketing. No other game system can match the marketing giant that is Sony. From its movies, hardware, music, cameras, televisions, and games Sony has been able to be major players in all of its industries even though they may not have the best technical product. This is of course because of Sony is a marketing giant, the word playstation is now almost synonymous with gaming consoles.

The Sony Playstation is as sleek as it gets. Its almost jet black color, distinct cornering, and CD tray, and sideways playable design makes the Sony PlayStation seem almost futuristic. Now offered in a slim design, the PlayStation is the sleekest system beating the bulky Xbox, and the childish looking Gamecube. The new slimmer Sony PlayStation 2’s are smaller then VCR’s and could be stored almost anywhere. The system itself has become almost an icon and can be recognized anywhere, its black exterior and blue lettering make the Sony PlayStation slyest looking system there is.

The PlayStation 2 is built with the PlayStation 1 in mind. It utilizes the same controller as the PlayStation 1 which makes the older controllers usable on the new system. This means no fumbling with new controllers, and learning different button placements. This is especially handy because the playstation controllers are quite expensive. The new PlayStation 2 also has the capability of playing older PlayStation 1 games. The compatibility from the older system to the new PlayStation 2 is phenomenal, this enough is almost enough to encourage all PS1 owners to quickly adapt the new PS2.

Extra add-ons and freebies are what make the PlayStation 2 a winner. The system has the capability to play audio compact discs, as well as DVD’s. Currently DVD players cost approximately 100 dollars while the Playstation costs slightly more. This unit alone has replaced the conventional DVD players in many households all around the world. As video game systems are often played by kids and teenagers, the built in DVD player acts as an incentive to parents. This may be the cause of its winning sales over the Gamecube which lacks CD and DVD support. The PlayStation 2 also has a big advantage over the Xbox. Free online gaming has attracted the older teenagers to this system over the others.

The Sony Playstation 2 is a clear winner among video game systems. From its early beginnings, Sony has made a big impact in the gaming industry and has continued to do so with the Sony PlayStation 2. Its large competitive library of games, online playing, media support of CD and DVD’s and compatibility with its predecessor make the PlayStation 2 a good choice for any type of gamer.
